Somewhere in Carrington, whether on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s whiteboard or in a notebook, will be a list of centre-backs Manchester United are interested in.

The Norwegian manager will be fully aware that neither Victor Lindelöf nor Eric Bailly are the long-term solutions for his defence, with Harry Maguire the only constant going forward.

A new partner for the England international is needed, and quite a few names have been touted as potential targets.

On the lower end of the scale, at least price wise, can be found Nikola Milenković, who will leave Fiorentina in the summer.

With a contract expiring in 2022 and no renewal in sight, the Serbian is set for a move elsewhere, with Manchester United interested.

Gazzetta dello Sport report this once more on Friday, claiming that the Serie A side are ‘heavily relying on an auction to keep the selling price high’, as they aren’t in the strongest of positions.

Many other teams, such as Arsenal, Tottenham or even Juventus are all mentioned as competition for a very affordable defender, whose price within the Italian club is believed to be ‘at least €25m’.

That price, however, ‘has not yet been confirmed’, and his agent, the renowned Fali Ramadani, is ‘acting with great discretion, knowing full well how important it is to manage the exit strategy with diplomacy’.

Furthermore, it’s stated that, as things stand, Milenković ‘seems oriented to remain in Italy’, meaning any interested party from elsewhere in Europe will need to be convincing.

Over to you, Manchester United.
