Earlier this week we covered claims from Italy that Wolves are keen on Christian Kouame. La Nazione, a newspaper local to Fiorentina, appeared surprised that the Premier League club were ready to sign the striker outright, as opposed to taking him on a loan deal first.

That’s likely down to the potential transfer being a gamble.

The 23-year-old was on the verge of moving to Crystal Palace in the winter 2020 market, before a serious knee injury ruined his chances. Fiorentina then took him on a loan move from Genoa, with a buying obligation.

Kouame, recovering from his injury, wasn’t able to find the back of the net for Fiorentina until the final Serie A match of last season. This season he’s only scored once in 33 league matches, which by any means is a poor return but especially when it’s considered he’s been playing mostly as the main striker, or just off a frontman.

La Nazione continue the same theme in their Friday newspaper, and again they talk of an offer from Wolves, who they say are ‘in the front row’ for the player. Like they did earlier this week, the newspaper states Nuno Espirito Santo’s side don’t want to go over €15m, and that’s the minimum figure Fiorentina are looking for.

Therefore, Wolves will need to raise their bid, at least a little.

Given the player’s injury history and poor goal return, a loan move would surely make much more sense for the English club.
