Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo claims that Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek has been ‘offered’ to Barcelona.
The 24-year-old had to settle for more time on the bench since he swapped Ajax for the Premier League side in 2020.
There’s been a talk of the midfielder leaving Old Trafford this summer and his continuity is ‘not guaranteed’, even though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘speaks of him as if he were safely continuing’ at the club.
There were claims of involving the Dutchman in a possible exchange deal with Real Madrid for Raphaël Varane, but this was before the Catalan club came into the picture.
It’s claimed the Netherlands international was proposed to Ronald Koeman’s side as a loan transfer, and this possibility came up after Georginio Wijnaldum said ‘no’ to Barca and completed a switch to Paris Saint-Germain.
At the Camp Nou, as per the report, they ‘studied the viability’ of including Samuel Umtiti as a part of the deal for Van de Beek.
A formula of one-season loan could be proposed, probably for both players, and if this goes through, Barca could solve ‘two problems in one go’.
It’s worth noting there’s no mention of United being interested in or wanting Umtiti and it would hardly make sense for them to look for a new centre-back, especially if the English club manage to complete the Varane deal.
