As Manchester United continue to wrestle Leicester City for Harry Maguire, seemingly unsuccessfully, the clock continues to tick, with just eight days left in the transfer window.
If talks continue to prove difficult, there surely has to be a cut off point when the Old Trafford club move onto their backup targets, who could be the recently mentioned Samuel Umtiti, the previously linked Toby Alderweireld, or even West Ham’s Issa Diop, for whom United allegedly bid earlier on in the window.
However, they aren’t the only ones interested in the Hammers’ player, as Foot Mercato claim Arsenal, also in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, came sniffing around the young centre-back as well.
It’s stated the Gunners enquired around three weeks ago, but nothing seemingly came from it, perhaps put off by the asking price?
Foot Mercato then dish out the information they’ve acquired, claiming Manchester United offered £50m for the player, wanting to add either Marcos Rojo or Phil Jones on top of the fee.
That didn’t go down well at West Ham, who said they wanted £80m, but the French website have learned the London Stadium club would actually have let him go for around £65m if such an offer was presented.
If that is the case, then maybe United could fall back on that option in the coming days, although with little time to find a replacement, the Hammers’ stance might have changed since.
