Sevilla director of football Victor Orta has shared his delight at snapping up Tottenham youngster Alejo Veliz on deadline day of the January transfer window.
Estadio Deportivo cover comments from the Sevilla sporting director today after the youngster completed his move to Spain yesterday.
The Spanish side have been busy presenting Veliz today after securing him on loan until the end of the season in a late deal on Thursday.
The youngster arrives looking for regular minutes to get back on track following a frustrated few months at Tottenham since joining in a €15m deal from Rosario Central in the summer.
The hope is that he can find his feet in Spain and begin to establish himself in Europe after struggling to break through under Ange Postecoglou since his arrival at Tottenham.
He’s joined a club in desperate need of a spark in the second half of the season, with Sevilla currently 16th in the table in Spain and just a point outside of the relegation zone.
Orta is certainly looking forward to watching the youngster, insisting he’s been watching him for a while.
“We have been following Alejo for a long time, from Leeds,” he said.
“He was a footballer with a record transfer when he went to Tottenham. We believe he is a very good option for us. We believe that Alejo Véliz brings fresh air.
“At the top we already have experienced people, but we wanted to rejuvenate that area. We believe he has a lot of quality to improve what there is. Alejo’s youth means giving energy at the top.”
