Julen Lopetegui’s increasingly uncertain future at Wolverhampton Wanderers is causing transfer issues, particularly in their pursuit of Real Betis’ Guido Rodriguez.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the growing concern around the Spanish coach has brought a halt to any transfer progress.
The newspaper explains that Wolves were ‘the last to ask’ about Rodriguez, who this week made it clear he is happy at Betis but needs them to match his ambitions if he is to remain this summer.
His situation has not really changed from last summer, when he was being eyed as a potential big money sale, but nothing eventually came of it.
It’s been the same this year, with Wolves ‘the last to take an interest in his situation’ but yet to make any move in a summer of ‘austerity’ for them.
Their big issue at the moment is sorting out Lopetegui’s future, with their coach becoming increasingly and publicly frustrated at the lack of transfers this summer when big names have departed.
That’s causing transfer issues as in the case with Rodriguez, with contacts having been held with the player but ‘not gone from there’.
In other words, they were looking into a deal for the midfielder and got in touch but have since maintained radio silence as Lopetegui’s future started to be questioned.
It seems until that is sorted nothing will be happening, creating an uncomfortable irony given his consternation is over the lack of new arrivals. It’s now up to Wolves to work things out and perhaps pushing to get Rodriguez would be a good start.
