Leeds United have made an €8.5m offer for Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi, but it hasn’t gone down well at the German club.

The newspaper explains that Nico Elvedi’s contract with Borussia only runs until next summer. so, to make a decent profit on him, director of football Rouven Schröder (50) needs to sell him this summer.
Leeds United are interested in a deal. Daniel Farke previously worked with the Switzerland defender at the German club and is keen on a reunion. Sport Witness have covered various reports of their interest in him.
According to BILD, they have so far offered €8.5m for the defender. That is an offer that is considered ‘too little’. The offer, it seems, was a verbal one. It was not sent to Schröder in writing. There are currently no other offers, or bidders, on the table.
Borussia concerns
The problem for Gladbach is that it is all but certain that Elvedi will not be extending his deal. He’s long wanted to move to the Premier League. If he can’t get it this summer, he will try to leave on a free transfer next summer.
Borussia are worrying about the situation. The situation is giving them déjà vu of 2023 That year they lost stars such as Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini and Matthias Ginter. Schröder, for his part, is not concerned about the situation.
“The transfer window is still open for a long time yet. So a lot can and will happen. At least we’re getting a head start on new signings, well ahead of the first big wave,” he is quoted as saying.
But the reality may be different. Leeds United are the only ones making a bid, and that bid is not enough as far as Schröder and Borussia Monchengladbach are concerned.
