Two months ago, Bild came up with a shock claim that Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Julian Weigl is of interest to Leeds United.
On March 22nd, the midfielder stated he can see himself staying at Gladbach when quizzed about the Leeds links.
At the start of this month, Daniel Farke hailed Weigl as a “great footballer” when pressed about Leeds United’s reported interest.
The Whites continue to be named as the 29-year-old’s contender by the German press and Sky Deutschland now provides the latest.
It’s claimed the Championship club are courting the player and are interested in signing him in the summer window. The Germany international has a contract until 2028 and that would make the operation ‘very expensive’ for Leeds.
Weigl hasn’t given up on his goal of playing in the Premier League. The Whites can help him fulfil it as they are on course to secure a promotion to the top division.
Leeds are on top of the Championship table, level on points with second placed Burnley and five ahead of third placed Sheffield United.
Farke has a good relationship with the Gladbach player may also be key for the transfer. He was in charge at the Bundesliga club when they signed Weigl from Benfica in 2022.
For now, the English club haven’t held talks with Gladbach, but Sky claim those could take place at some point.
