Inter Milan are still pursuing a deal for Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero, with the deal on the table and ‘wide open’.
Corriere dello Sport report that a deal could also be close with Tottenham for around €40m, despite Spurs’ desire to slightly adjust the offer.
£500,000 difference
According to the newspaper’s information, the distance between Cristian Romero and Inter Milan is not as wide as previously though.
They report at the moment the two parties are ‘haggling’ over €500,000. That appears to relate to the bonuses in Romero’s contract at Tottenham. He currently earns €5.5m at Spurs with £500,000 in bonuses.
Inter Milan’s current proposal is slightly below that, at around €6.4m. That translates to around £5.5m, hence the £500,000 being important.
That gap, though, is not considered a problem. Corriere report that there is confidence a deal can be done. They also state that there would be no issue reaching an agreement on agent commissions. Inter Milan have been linked for a while.
No agent issues
There is competition for the Argentine international, though. The main competition at this moment in time, according to the newspaper, is from Arsenal. Atlético Madrid is also in the mix for the defender. An arrival at Inter Milan would be dependent on Bejamin Pavard’s departure.
Either way, it seems that Inter Milan believe that a deal with the 28-year-old is more than achievable at this point.
Reports from England had indicated that Cristian Romero would be leaving Spurs this summer. Their spending on Jan Paul van Hecke and the arrival of Marcos Senesi on a free transfer has hinted that will be the case as well.
But any deal is seemingly dependent on Inter getting an agreement in place with the defender first. With £500,000 now only separating them, that shouldn’t be too difficult to achieve. There is certainly confidence at Inter that there’s a deal to be done.
