Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Julen Lopetegui today received some good news from Portugal.
As reported by RTP, the manager finally found an agreement with his former club Porto for an indemnity worth €792k.
Lopetegui had taken legal action against Porto back in 2020, making ’employment claims arising from IRS settlements relating to the period in which Julen Lopetegui was linked to FC Porto, and the Tax Authority initially rejected his intention to be covered by a special tax regime’.
In other words, the Wolves coach had dealt with Portuguese taxes all by himself, and believed that Porto should be covering at least part of it.
The Dragons initially refused to pay him, and that’s why the legal process started. Earlier this year, the club officially stated in their financial reports that this money was already blocked by the courts, and now it’s confirmed that the amount is going to the manager.
Lopetegui left Porto in January 2016, and couldn’t win any titles there. In the following years, he managed Spain, Real Madrid and Sevilla before taking charge of Wolves in November 2022.
Since his arrival at Molineux, he’s had 19 games in charge, with seven wins, four draws and eight defeats. They now stand 13th on the Premier League table, and need a couple of wins soon to stop even thinking about a potential relegation.
