Arsenal looked at Martín Zubimendi in January after Mikel Arteta urged the leaders of the Premier League side to sign the Real Sociedad star.
Reports coming out of Spain had stated the midfielder wasn’t keen to leave the La Liga side in January but may change his stance in the summer.
On January 27th, Sport explained the 24-year-old has decided to bet on Arsenal if they activate his €60m release clause after this season.
Apart from the Gunners, Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in the player as Xavi Hernández is his admirer.
Calciomercato.it interviewed Spanish journalist Eugenio Mateo Serrano, and they asked him about Franck Kessié’s situation at the Camp Nou. Sergio Busquets, another midfielder at the Catalan club, has a deal expiring in June.
Serrano was asked whether Kessié would continue at Barcelona if the 34-year-old were to leave in the summer. When responding to it, he detailed Arsenal’s interest in Zubimendi.
“I do not think so. Xavi needs another player instead of Busquets. The number one pick is Martín Zubimendi, from Real Sociedad. But it’s also difficult because Zubimendi wants to play in the Premier League, and for me Arsenal are in pole position,” Serrano said.
