Belgium are mis-using Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard, and his recent goal against Porto for the Gunners is perfect proof of it.
That’s according to journalist Romain Van der Pluym, who has called for change from the Red Devils via Voetbal Primeur.
Trossard has been in fine form for Arsenal this season, with 11 goals and two assists in 34 games in all competitions to date despite largely playing a substitute role.
He’s also a key member of Domenico Tedesco’s Belgium squad and added to his collection of caps in this international break with 45 minute and 60-minute appearances against Ireland and England.
He was unable to make his mark in either of those games, though, playing something of a reduced role before eventually being substituted off.
Scoring for his country has not been as easy at club level for Trossard, with two goals in his last five games not the sort of tally they’d be looking for from a player who very much plays a key role in the side.
Van der Pluym believes that might be a case of Belgium using him incorrectly, though, and used Trossard’s goal for Arsenal against Porto in the Champions League as an example of that.
“Trossard is a man of depth. In Belgium, they ask him to be a man of the build-up and Trossard is simply not that,” he said.
“(Against Porto) Ødegaard gives him a brilliant pass to send him into the lane. How he perfectly asked for the ball there, that’s how he should be used.”
