Victor Lindelof played his last Premier League game for Manchester United against Aston Villa on Sunday.

With the Swede’s contract at Old Trafford running out at the end of June, he will depart the club after eight years.

Lindelof has witnessed his fair share of ups and downs at Manchester United, picking up some silverware along the way.

Fotbollskanalen’s columnist Tobias Hellgren has now blamed Manchester United for how Lindelof’s stint at the English club has petered out and has written a stinging column about the situation.

He bemoans that no tears will be shed about the Sweden international’s departure and that he has constantly been criticised for not being physical enough for the Premier League. The columnist states that the defender has often faced unfair criticism from the UK media, who have always carried a negative image of the 30-year-old since his debut under Jose Mourinho.

Hellgren states that ‘it’s Manchester United’s fault’ that Lindelof has been criticised since the day he first played. They were the ones to hand him a hefty salary, due to which they have failed to sell him for a transfer fee. He should have, in fact, left a while back, according to the journalist.

The columnist is happy the centre-back is finally departing the ‘nightmare’ that is Manchester United and he will now look to play at a club where he is not criticised so much, but valued instead.
