Isaac Schmidt left FC St. Gallen for Leeds United on deadline day of last summer transfer window.
The right-back hasn’t able to have regular minutes in his debut season with the Whites. To put it into context, he’s played 71 minutes from 12 league games and 180 minutes from two FA Cup games.
Blick have had a detailed chat with the Leeds player, during which he discussed about future.
The Switzerland international was asked whether he considered leaving Elland Road in the winter market due to his limited role. The player admitted he thought about a move and explains what convinced him to continue at Leeds United.
“I thought about it. But I’d only just arrived, and I needed to adapt. And I could see that I was making progress. Even without playing, I could feel that I was making steady progress,” he said.
“I was hoping to play if we became champions sooner. And then, I didn’t want to miss this unique moment. It’s not something you experience every day.”
His restricted role under Daniel Farke didn’t stop him making his debut for Switzerland in March. Last month, we covered claims from Switzerland which stated numerous unnamed clubs are interested in him.
The 25-year-old’s contract lasts until 2028, and Blick asked him whether he’ll still be at Leeds United next season.
“We’ll see. I’m open to anything. But Leeds, in the Premier League… it’s a unique experience,” Schmidt explained.
When asked if the Premier League was his dream, he added: “Yes, of course. It’s a dream. I didn’t have a favourite club in the Premier League… now it’s Leeds!”
