Over the past two months, claims from Brazil have discussed West Ham United’s interest in Wesley Gassova. On May 4th, UOL reported the Hammers had made a €15m bid, which didn’t please Corinthians.
Earlier this week, Globo Esporte stated Corinthians president Augusto Melo was set to travel to Europe to hold talks for the 19-year-old’s transfer in the summer window. It was also said West Ham are the favourites to sign him.
Rádio Itatiaia backs up the Premier League side’s desire to secure the winger’s services and add that they are the ‘main interested party’.
Several other European clubs have been credited with interest in the player, but the report only mentions West Ham.
The youngster’s deal lasts until December 2028, and Corinthians manager António Oliveira fears losing him in the next window, since there are many interested parties.
“I am worried. I am a coach and I want those who can help us achieve something, he is fundamental. Therefore, it [losing him] is something that worries me as a coach,” he said, as relayed by Rádio Itatiaia.
The South American club have informed Wesley’s suitors they need €30m to sanction his sale, which feels a little inflated and ambitious.
On Tuesday, Goal in Brazil reported Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace have joined West Ham in the race for the attacker.
