On May 25th, Versus reported Wolverhampton Wanderers have entered the race to sign Ramón Sosa. Since then, there have been several claims of the Premier League side’s interest in the CA Talleres player.
Two days ago, Olé said Gary O’Neil’s side are keen on securing his services. Later that day, we covered claims from Argentina that Wolves want to wrap up the deal as soon as possible.
On Thursday, Record stated Benfica have given up in the race to sign the Wolves target. This will please the English club, who have now received further encouragement in their pursuit of the winger.
TyC Sports interviewed Talleres manager Walter Ribonetto, and he largely accepted defeat in his quest to keep the Paraguay international. The coach also insisted the club have to cash in from Sosa’s sale to balance their accounts.
“I think it’ll be difficult [for him to stay] because a great effort was made by the leadership in this semester to be able to support Ramón. We were already able to enjoy him until the Santiago del Estero game, after which he travelled with his national team,” he said.
“So, I think he will have the possibility of emigrating and we also get used to playing without Ramón, and for now the possibility that he has for his future is important. Obviously, and if given the choice, I would prefer to have him, but I think it’s difficult because of the situation that clubs often need to sell.”
Ribonetto’s admission comes less than a month after Talleres president Andrés Fassi said the player will leave in the next window, and he has requested $20m [£15.6m] to sanction his sale.
Sosa has managed seven goals and six assists from 21 games for the Argentine club this year.
