Michy Batshuayi has insisted he loved his time in London with Chelsea and Crystal Palace and is now looking forward to a return to take on Tottenham.
The striker has been speaking to Eintracht Frankfurt’s official website as they gear up to take on Tottenham in the Europa League quarterfinals.
Eintracht travel to Tottenham on Thursday for the first leg of the two-header before welcoming Ange Postecoglou’s side to Frankfurt a week later.
It will be a return to London for Batshuayi, who knows the city well after spells with Chelsea and Crystal Palace earlier in his career.
He joined Chelsea for €39m in 2016 but would only manage 77 games for them, instead spending most of his time at Stamford Bridge out on loan.
One such move saw him playing for Crystal Palace from 2019 to 2021, initially joining the Eagles on loan in the January transfer window before extending it to the next season that summer. He looks back on his time at both clubs fondly, praising his spells when asked about them.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” he said about his return.
“I had a great time in London and many fond memories. But all that is in the past. Now it’s a new chapter, and it’s Eintracht versus Tottenham. We want to win.
“That plan hasn’t changed – whether back then with Chelsea or Crystal Palace or in the current Europa League season in the league phase with Galatasaray.”
Eintracht may actually head into the game against Tottenham as favourites as Postecoglou’s side continue to struggle this season.
They currently sit 14th in the Premier League, with defeat to Chelsea this week condemning them to their 16th of season, the second worst outside the bottom three and only two less than 18th placed Ipswich Town.
Batshuayi is taking nothing for granted, though, and still believes Spurs have plenty about them to cause problems.
“Tottenham may not be having a great season in the league, but they still have a lot of quality and some special players in their ranks,” he added.
“In football, everything can change in a game within a few minutes. We have to be very concentrated and focused at all times against Tottenham.”
