Of all the transfers this month, few are likely to be as surprising as West Ham United’s decision to sell Sebastien Haller.
Given the Ivorian was far from a success at the London Stadium, the Hammers decision to sell up was not much of a shock, but the sudden nature of the move certainly was.
This was one of those rare transfers in which there was very little build-up to it happening, with the news breaking and the deal being done not long afterwards.
Haller departed West Ham as something of a flop, with 14 goals and three assists certainly not great value for the money they paid to sign him.
He is now looking to get his career back on track at Ajax, a club where strikers have been known to flourish down the years.
So far it’s been good for Haller, who has two goals and three assists in five games for the Dutch club so far.
However, that hasn’t seen him avoiding criticism, with Wim Kieft believing the striker has arrived from West Ham unfit.
“Haller is not quite at one hundred percent yet,” he told Veronica Inside, relayed by Ajax Showtime.
“He makes them more complete, because they can also play the ball long. I just have the feeling he is not fit at all.
“I can see that in the way he walks and acts. In the sixteen he actually plays very static except for the goal, then he arrived well at the near post.
“Perhaps it is not surprising, because I don’t think he played very much.”
