Transfers can fail at the last minute for a multitude of reasons and it can be shattering for those involved, especially the players and their families.

Sometimes it’s a medical issue, occasionally a work permit, and then other times just financial details which looked to be agreed then changing.

Players don’t often talk about their upset at such situations, but now Anthony Lozano has revealed how hurt he was when a move to Tottenham Hotspur fell through.

At the time, the forward was still playing for Olimpia in Honduras. It was 2010, and as TUDN have it, he was on the verge of a life changing move to Premier League football.

Opening up to TUDN about his failed move to Tottenham, Lozano said: “Honestly, yes (it was hard), it wasn’t because of me, but because of the club, Olimpia, I’ve never talked about it… but I went with enthusiasm, I was 17 years old, it was a trial, I was supposedly signed, I did the tests, I had the contract, but when it happened, the person who traveled with me from the club said that the amounts were not the agreed ones.

“I couldn’t stay on the team because of money. I was jumping up and down (with excitement), but when I arrived and the contract wasn’t signed, I left the room almost crying. It wasn’t because of my ability, but more because of financial issues.”

Along with his Honduras nationality, Lozano also has a Spanish passport and that’s how he would have been able to move to Tottenham at the time.

Following that, he was transferred to Valencia but didn’t get further than their B side. He then played for various clubs including Barcelona B, Girona and Cadiz, and moved as a big signing to Mexico’s Santos Laguna last week.
