While West Brom fans wait to see how things pan out with Eric Ramsay, they may be wondering what’s going on with Carlos Corberán.

Well, it’s not going all that well. He’s found himself under pressure after a successful start. That’s pressure has been mounting in recent months, so much so that now CEO Ron Gourlay is getting involved. Mundo Deportivo cover comments from him today.

The Spaniard was arguably the last man to get it right at the Hawthorns. His two years in charge, leading them to two top ten finishes in the Championship before departing for Valencia in December 2024.

There’s been three permanent managers since, with Tony Mowbray lasting just 18 league games, Ryan Mason 27 and Ramsay on four. The latter is yet to win a game.

Corberán, meanwhile, is trying to turn things around at the Mestalla. A challenging start to this season hasn’t improved, with Valencia currently 16th in the table and just a point outside the bottom three. They’re also only three points behind Osasuna in 9th, though.

Still, Valencia fans have been calling for his head for a while. And that appears to have annoyed their CEO, Ron Gourlay. He knows Corberán well after working with him at West Brom too and has moved to defend him from the critics.

“Carlos is the coach. I don’t know how many times I have to say it. We have 25 players who will help us climb the standings. Carlos is under contract,” he said.

“The team is going to help us climb the standings. The coach is the easy target in the world of football when things aren’t going well, but I take full responsibility.

“It’s not just the coach’s fault, or the coaching staff’s, or the players’; it’s everyone’s responsibility. We have to keep working as a team; this club needs stability, and we must continue on this path.

“We need to find stability, and that’s not achieved by constantly changing coaches. That’s my opinion and the board’s. We see that things are improving. And that’s why I believe we have to continue on this path, and the results will improve. I have complete confidence in Carlos and complete confidence in the team.”
