Nahitan Nandez spent much of the transfer window being linked with a move away from Cagliari, with several Premier League clubs thought to be keen.
Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur were the English pair most linked with the player, whilst in Italy it was Inter Milan who were subject to the strongest stories.
At one point, Nandez tried to force the issue by refusing to travel with Cagliari to a preseason match in Spain. That naturally brought a lot of criticism to the player, and now a transfer has failed, he needs to start rebuilding bridges at his current club.
Stefano Capozucca, the Sardinian club’s sporting director, was one of those who spoke out against Nandez after he failed to show up for the flight to Spain.
Now he’s taking a calmer approach, and says he understands the player’s desire to improve his career and take the next step.
Speaking to L’Unione Sarda, and quoted by Calciomercato, Capozucca said: “Nahitan had some requests, Napoli’s latest offensive was a €1m loan and Cagliari couldn’t accept these offers. Whoever wants him must give him the right value. It must be understood, everyone has the ambition to improve. He has had meetings with Tottenham, Inter, Napoli and Roma, it is normal to have thought about leaving. Nahitan showed a bad mood, but he is a spectacular guy and will always give his best.”
Given Tottenham’s interest has now been backed up, it will be interesting to see if Fabio Paratici returns for another try in the next window.
