Wilfried Gnonto has impressed for Leeds United since he arrived at Elland Road from FC Zürich, on deadline day of the last summer window.
The forward has managed four goals and four assists from 24 games and his displays have seen him linked with a move away from the Whites. A few Serie A sides have been named as potential destinations in the summer.
Gnonto’s agent Claudio Vigorelli has said, quoted by Calciomercato, that his client will likely stay with Leeds. He has also talked about the possibility of the 19-year-old committing his long-term future to the Premier League side.
“We have all always believed in Gnonto’s qualities. He’s doing very well at Leeds and I think he’ll stay there, his path is there. The club is enthusiastic about his performances, after the season we will probably meet to discuss a possible contract extension, but there will be no problems,” he said.
The Italy international has a contract until 2027. Leeds [17th in the table] are in a relegation battle and Vigorelli’s quotes could come as encouragement for the Premier League side to keep him next season.
Having come up through the ranks of Inter Milan’s youth system, Gnonto left the Serie A side [side for Zürich in 2020] without making an appearance for their senior team.
Last month, the attacker told Corriere della Sera that he doesn’t regret leaving Inter at a young age. His agent has now admitted this wasn’t an easy step for Gnonto.
“For him, leaving Inter, a team he continues to support, was not an easy choice anyway. His is a good story to tell. Perhaps in Italy they believed him a little less, due to the lack of trust in certain young people,” Vigorelli explained.
