A few days ago we covered a report from Spanish newspaper AS which dripped with cockiness over a move for Cristian Romero. As far as the Spanish media had it, Atlético Madrid would be getting the Argentina international this summer, and paying what they wished to rather than what Tottenham Hotspur would push for.
Others in Spain, such as Marca, have repeatedly acknowledged that Spurs will be difficult to deal with in negotiations, even if the player very much wants the move and is Atlético Madrid’s first choice for the position.
Monday’s edition of AS isn’t quite as cocky, but still shares some confidence. It’s explained Atlético Madrid will likely need two central defenders in the summer window, and Romero is Diego Simeone’s first choice.
Whilst this time it’s acknowledged that Tottenham will be tough in negotiations, it’s also stated, in reference to the player, ‘he’ll do his part’.
That’s been repeatedly insisted and it would appear Romero’s camp have assured Atlético Madrid they’ll push the situation.
