Earlier this month, we covered comments from Thilo Kehrer in which he explained why he believes he’s doing well since joining AS Monaco from West Ham United.
He felt he was getting more trust from the Ligue 1 side than he’d perhaps experienced when in London, and had also gained confidence from being used mainly as a central defender.
Whilst the 29-year-old admitted that versatility can be a strength, he made it clear that to be at his best he needs a fixed central position.
Since his permanent West Ham exit in the summer, Kehrer has made nine appearances for Monaco and all of those have come in central defence, so he’s certainly getting the scenario he desired.
Friday’s edition of Monaco-Matin has an article on how he’s been settling in, and there’s praise for the ‘calm and stability’ he’s brought to the club’s defence.
Kehrer is also fitting in off the pitch, with Monaco-Matin saying, in shocked appreciation, ‘he speaks seven languages’.
A source from AS Monaco is quoted as saying: “He can talk to anyone in the locker room.
“I think the most important thing is that he now really plays in one position,” analyses the same source to explain this consistency in performances. He can play in the centre, on the right, on the left, in a defence of four, in a defence of three… But he is more comfortable in the centre.
“He likes life here, he feels good with the coach, his partners… Right now, everything is perfect for him.”
Monaco Matin say that’s also the case for the club, who appear very happy with their purchase from West Ham.
