Marcel Sabitzer’s deadline day loan move to Manchester United was a “good solution for all sides”, according to Bayern Munich chief Hasan Salihamidzic.
The Austrian midfielder joined Manchester United on loan at the end of the January transfer window, with United moving quickly to secure his signature following an injury to Christian Eriksen.
The Dane, who has played a key role under Erik ten Hag this season, is facing months on the sidelines after a poor tackle from Reading’s Andy Carroll led to an ankle injury.
That would have left a huge hole in Manchester United’s midfield and so they moved late in the window to secure Sabitzer’s signature.
His departure from the German champions was something of a surprise given he’s been a regular for Bayern this season, albeit more often from the bench than in the starting eleven.
He remains in their plans moving forwards, hence his loan deal at Manchester United not including a purchase option, and Salihamidzic insists it was a deal that suited all parties as Bayern could not “guarantee” minutes before the end of the season.
“Sabi had a very, very good market. There was interest from many big clubs,” Fussball News report him saying to SportBILD.
“Manchester United had lost a player for the second half of the season in Christian Eriksen due to injury. Therefore, it was clear that Marcel will get a great chance for playing time. So it was a good solution for all sides.”
