Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion both showed interest in Botafogo’s left-back Cuiabano this year, but neither move materialised.
As reported by Globo Esporte, the 22-year-old will now remain in Brazil and is expected to receive opportunities in his original role under new head coach Davide Ancelotti.
Cuiabano was part of the scouting list prepared by John Textor’s group for Nottingham Forest, alongside players like centre-back Jair and striker Igor Jesus, both of whom did join the Premier League side.
However, the left-back’s transfer didn’t progress due to disagreements over salary and a shift in Forest’s priorities toward reinforcing the defence and attack.
Brighton came closest to striking a deal, submitting two bids worth around £4.2m fixed, with potential add-ons of £1.7m to £2.5m.
Still, those figures fell short of Botafogo’s expectations and were turned down. The Seagulls eventually moved on, signing Belgian fullback Maxim De Cuyper instead.
Cuiabano gained attention for his standout performances at the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this year, particularly in Botafogo’s clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
His displays boosted his profile among European scouts, but Botafogo have reiterated that he is not currently for sale, and the player himself has no intention of leaving in this window.
