Fulham have been given a second chance to sign Edson Alvarez from Ajax this summer after Borussia Dortmund pulled out of any deal for him.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the midfielder is now back on the market after Fulham made a bid for him earlier in the window.
The newspaper explains that Dortmund had lined up a deal for Alvarez and it looked to be on the way to being completed, with sporting director Sebastien Kehl convinced on him from a sporting perspective.
He worked long and hard to convince the player the move was the right one for him, so much so that Alvarez turned down several other clubs.
Fulham were one of them, with it explained that the midfielder ‘could have earned even more money’ with a move to Marco Silva’s side.
He wanted the Bundesliga after being convinced by Kehl, though, and a deal was on the way to being completed before the German side ‘suddenly broke’ it off last Thursday.
That was thanks to manager Edin Terzic, who rejected the proposal as he was ‘no longer convinced’ about the player.
In the end the deal to sign him from Ajax was also deemed to be too expensive and so a deal has now been put to one side.
That gives Fulham a second chance at getting their man after being rejected earlier this summer, although whether they want to go back is up for debate.
If they do, they might find Alvarez a little more receptive than he was when they initially approached, having now been rejected by Dortmund.
