Nottingham Forest have reached the ‘internal approval’ stage to sign midfielder Richard Ríos from Brazilian club Palmeiras.

That’s according to Premier League Brasil, who report that the midfielder has been ‘closely watched’ by Nottingham Forestt. They’ve now received ‘internal approval’ to sign him.

He was one of Palmeiras’ standout performers and they have decided to ‘open their eyes’ to a transfer this year. PL Brasil says this comes from a ‘source close to the negotiations’ being held by the Premier League side.

He’s very much on their list and they’re keeping him under “constant observation”. They’ve now received the go ahead internally to sign Ríos but have other priorities for the January transfer window.

“Ríos brings together many characteristics that fit into the Premier League and would still be an affordable player for a mid-sized club, which does not have the same resources as Manchester City or Chelsea,” their source is quoted as saying.

No negotiations are being held between the two clubs at this moment in time. Palmeiras wouldn’t want to sell before the Club World Cup in the summer either. The midfielder has a release clause worth €100m but no interested club would pay that to get him.

One big issue for Nottingham Forest is midfielder Danilo, whose presence in the squad would stop any need for a move for Ríos. Reinforcing the midfield is not an ‘urgency’ for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Ríos is a player they like, though, and with internal approval for a transfer, he’s very much a name to keep an eye on.
