Jason Denayer was on Wolverhampton Wanderers’ transfer target list towards the end of the summer window.

On August 31st, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri explained the Premier League side’s board have put the deal for Denayer on hold as they were prioritising Leicester City’s Çağlar Söyüncü.

Wolves didn’t end up signing Söyüncü and they could still have an opportunity to secure Denayer’s services, even though the transfer window is closed.

The Belgium international is without a club since leaving Lyon as a free agent at the end of last season. Tavolieri has now taken to Twitter to provide a short update on the centre-back.

According to the journalist, the 27-year-old’s move to Wolves is ‘at an impasse’ and the ‘situation does not change’. The reason for the ‘impasse’ is because Bruno Lage’s side do not want to offer more money to the player, while he doesn’t want to earn less than his demands.

Tavolieri doesn’t specify what the English club are willing to offer, or the wage demanded by the former Celtic man. He does mention that Wolves offered West Ham United’s Craig Dawson £55,000 per week.
