Former Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita has admitted he was left ‘tired’ despite enjoying ‘beautiful years’ at the club.

The Spaniard has been speaking to El Desmarque about his career and what may come next as he enjoys life at Celta Vigo.

He joined the Spanish club on a free transfer from Crystal Palace in September last year after essentially forcing his way out of Selhurst Park last summer.

Guaita had been with the Eagles for five years after arriving on a free transfer from Getafe in 2018, going on to make 154 appearances for the club in his time there.

His spell with the club ended acrimoniously, though, as he refused to play in an attempt to force his way out.

This led to public criticism from manager Roy Hodgson and the inevitable reaction from the fanbase, who were less than impressed by his actions.

He eventually got what he wanted and joined Celta, where he’s since established himself as first-team regular and seems to be enjoying himself.

With a contract until 2025, he’s thinking about an extension, a distinct change from what he was thinking about when he was at Crystal Palace.

“I came here to help the club, I said it from the first day,” he said.

“I had had very important and beautiful years in London. When I saw that I was tired I decided to change my scene, my club. I came here with the same enthusiasm that I have every day.

“I don’t know. I also said in London that it was my last contract and I renewed it two more times and came to Celta. If I feel good, why not hold on longer.

“I’m focused on these weeks and when we finish this month, rest and come back again with the same enthusiasm, another preseason and let’s see what happens next year.”
