Austrian striker Sasa Kalajdzic has admitted he left Wolverhampton Wanderers this month after growing frustrated by his lack of chances at Molineux.
The striker has been speaking at a press conference unveiling at his new club Eintracht Frankfurt today, with various answers relayed by Kicker.
The Austrian has joined the German side on loan until the end of the season after it was made clear he was not a part of Gary O’Neil’s side this season.
He’s barely featured for Wolves this season after returning from a long-term knee injury he picked up in the first game of last season after joining Wolves that summer.
He spent the entirety of last season on the treatment table and had been hoping to bounce back this season, particularly with Euro 2024 around the corner and him very much in Austria’s plans at that tournament.
Instead, he had found himself being used a substitute by O’Neil, often thrown in at the death to try and turn results or grab a late goal.
That wasn’t enough for the striker, who admits he left Wolves this month after asking the question and never receiving the answers he wanted.
“They simply relied on other players and not me,” he said.
“I tried to do my best in training, they never blamed me for that, and they told me I was always professional, that I always worked hard, but then they didn’t really give me a real reason.
“In the end I felt more like a fireman, called on when there’s a fire under the roof and then maybe I’ll come on and I’ll score a goal. Maybe save the situation. But I wanted to come into play now, when the result was normal.
“I know what I can do, I’ve definitely been able to learn something from this time. You can always learn something, anywhere.
“But most importantly you play. At the end of the day, it doesn’t do you any good if you don’t play and that’s the reason why I’m here now and no longer there.”
