Following the recent rumours in the Brazilian media claiming Flamengo are interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcanatara, we today get to see an interesting update in the situation.

The information is brought by World Cup winner Zinho, who’s a pundit at ESPN Brasil. There, he revealed that he had a conversation with the midfielder’s father, Mazinho.

Thiago’s contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season, which would allow Flamengo to sign him for free.

However, his dad claimed that the Rio de Janeiro club did not make any contact about the signing, so this possibility is off the table, at least for now.

Regarding the midfielder’s plans, it’s first said that he’s ready to leave in the summer, because Liverpool did not contact his entourage for a renewal.

So far, the player only has approaches from the Middle-East.

It’s worth pointing out that Zinho and Mazinho played together in the 1994 World Cup, with Zinho saying Mazinho is his ‘brother and partner’, so that’s pretty much a way of showing that his source is very reliable.
