Burnley have placed an offer for Montpellier defender Maxime Esteve, according to reports from France.

L’Equipe writes that the Clarets have put €12m on the table for the signing, and are now ‘close’ to landing the 21-year-old.

The talks between Burnley and Esteve had been on for a while, and it’s said that this bid matches what the Ligue 1 club expected for the sale.

They also clarify that the offer from Turf Moor includes €2m in bonuses and 15% of a future transfer, meaning the French side could earn even more down the life if the centre-back does well under Vincent Kompany.

This sounds like a good deal for Montpellier, who are about to make one of the top ten transfers in their history.

That could even help them at the end of the transfer window, as the club are trying to make one or two signings before the market closes.

Esteve is a product of Montpellier’s youth ranks, getting promoted to their first team in 2021. With 60 appearances for the club, he’s valued by Transfermarkt at €7m.

Now we should wait for more updates to see if the club are actually accepting Burnley’s bid.
