To say the situation around Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs De Ligt is the most boring of the past few weeks in the transfer window would be to do a great service to Emerson Royal.
That said, even the Tottenham player now looks like he’s going to finalise his move to AC Milan over the weekend, unless Spurs and the Rossoneri find something else – maybe who pays for his taxi from the airport – to argue about.
Manchester United’s interest in the two Bayern Munich players has been reported for weeks. With De Ligt seen as a chance for Erik ten Hag to reunite with another old Ajax love, and Mazraoui something of a market opportunity after Uli Hoeneß told everyone the German club need to sell.
A week ago it was reported Mazraoui had his medical booked in for Tuesday just gone, so we’ll hope there was a refund available for that and no private jets took wasted trips.
Now Sky Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg has his say. Again.
Of course, it’s all talked up. There’s now a ‘clear tendency’ both players ‘will join Manchester United’. Ja! Finally.
Oh hang on, that’s followed by: ‘In August’ and ‘if all goes to plan’.
Talks are ongoing, there’s positivity, Manchester United are pushing. Maybe pushing ever so delicately that this has got weeks left to reach the finish line.
Bayern want to sell, Plettenberg reiterates, but we all know the German club are worried about being seen to give Manchester United a good deal. That may be even more important than a few million here or there.
