Manchester United’s newest signing has already identified the biggest challenge awaiting him in England. Colombian wonderkid Cristián Orozco admitted he quickly realised how important adapting off the pitch will be.
The midfielder officially became eligible to join the Red Devils after turning 18 this month. He had agreed his move from Fortaleza in October last year.
He has already travelled to Manchester to complete his medical and finalise the formalities. This comes before beginning the next stage of his career.
Speaking to ESPN Colombia after returning home, Orozco explained that learning English is now at the top of his priorities.
“I expect to learn a lot of English. When I was there, I realised just how, how important it is,” he said.
Orozco already focused on adaptation
Cristián Orozco made it clear he understands that succeeding at Manchester United will depend on much more than his ability with the ball.
The midfielder said his immediate objective is to settle into his new surroundings as quickly as possible before trying to prove himself on the pitch.
“I want to arrive and learn as quickly as possible. That’s what’s required so I can show my level and everything I’m capable of. I want to adapt to everything that comes my way as quickly as possible,” Orozco explained.
That mindset is unlikely to disappoint United. They committed to signing the Colombia youth international long before he was eligible to move to England.
Confidence without ignoring the challenge
Cristián Orozco also spoke confidently about the qualities he believes can help him establish himself at Old Trafford, while acknowledging that patience will be needed.
“I know my strengths are my physicality and my technique. I have those qualities and, with the gift God gave me, I don’t think it will be too difficult. But everything is about adapting. I’m very young and that’s what I’ll need to do,” he said.
The midfielder captained Colombia at the 2025 U17 World Cup. He is now waiting to discover where Manchester United will place him within the club’s development pathway.
Previous reports from Colombia suggested he could link up with the club’s U21 squad during pre-season, although his longer-term role will be determined once he begins training in England.
For now, Orozco’s message is a simple one: “I hope to adapt as quickly as possible.”
