Everton may find themselves in a difficult position to pay and take Florentino Luís from Benfica, but they’re still not ruled out from that race.
Portuguese newspaper Record today features a piece where they reveal that an unnamed English club placed a €30m bid for the midfielder.
That offer was turned down by the Eagles, as even though that was supposed to be the minimum price to negotiate Florentino, they now believe that bigger bids may show up in the summer.
The reason for that is the economic power from Premier League sides, and that’s where Everton get a mention.
The newspaper doesn’t make it sound like it were the Toffees who placed the bid, but claims that the Goodison Park side have an ‘old interest’ in Florentino and ‘should return to action’ for his signing soon.
Also, when speaking about the competitors for the signing, Record writes that Everton and Nottingham Forest are the ‘main interested’ parties.
So while Benfica will be holding to receive a bigger offer on the table, they should be hopeful that the Toffees participate in this auction.
