Abdoulaye Doucouré has managed to cause some fuss in the Everton fanbase in recent days after he made comments on a podcast about renewing his contract with the Premier League club.

The 32-year-old’s deal expires at the end of the season and the midfielder feels he should continue to be paid highly at Everton and potentially even get a pay rise, referring to recent renewals at Liverpool for comparison, without suggesting he’s at the same level as those players.

France’s FootMercato now report the Everton player has options.

Saudi Arabia club Al-Shabab are said to be in talks with the player, trying to temp him to leave European football behind and go to the Middle East for the money.

According to the claims on Monday, Al-Shabab are pushing to make the signing happen and have made an offer to the player’s camp. That offer is put at around $4m, but it’s stated the Everton player wants more.

Footballers aren’t subject to income tax in Saudi Arabia, so that $4m would be take-home.
