Loaned directly to Anderlecht after his arrival at Everton, Henry Onyekuru might be looking forward to the upcoming season with the Belgian champions, but he’s also looking beyond that.

Completely focused on the task at hand in the Jupiler League, the Nigerian starlet seems happy to play wherever the manager sees fit, whether it be down the left hand side or in a front two with Poland international Lukasz Teodorzcyk.

Knowing full well he wouldn’t be able to play at Goodison Park next season, Onyekuru told DH in Belgium his club are still taking a keen interest in him this season and he’s ready to impress.

He said: “I’m one of their players. They’re sending scouts, drawing up reports. I want to do well at Everton, but Anderlecht and the title are my priorities.”

Revealing he was yet to meet Ronald Koeman, presumably the man who had the final say on the player’s arrival, the 20-year-old did admit he was impressed by Everton’s professionalism and their belief in his abilities.

As for what he would like to do down the line with the Toffees: “I’d like to play with Rooney. It would be an honour to be able to learn from him.”

However, before any of this can happen, Onyekuru needs to be granted a work permit, and there’s only one easy way to do that: get called up to his national team.

He said: “The club believe in me. I need to play at least 75% of international games. I got a taste for the first time last year, and I hope to continue and be called up some more.”

A goal he shouldn’t have too much problem reaching if he continues his form from last season.
