Everton have managed to win four games in all competitions this season and that includes a 1-0 victory over Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup.
On Tuesday, the Merseyside club were knocked out of the cup competition after suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of AFC Bournemouth.
Everton are 16th in the table, two points above 18th placed Southampton, who sacked Ralph Hasenhüttl this week.
Frank Lampard is under pressure at Goodison Park, while the Toffees seem to be looking at options. That’s at least what Het Belang van Limburg are reporting today.
The newspaper says Everton ‘continue to follow’ their former manager, Roberto Martínez. He is currently in charge of the Belgium national team and his contract with them expires on December 31st.
HBVL state De Rode Duivels have the intention to retain the Spaniard beyond this year and do not want to wait until the end of the World Cup to secure his future. They have already started talks to tie down the 49-year-old to a new deal.
Martínez isn’t in a hurry and is aware he would find a new challenge after the World Cup. If he were to guide Belgium to the latter stages of the FIFA tournament, the ex-Everton boss could be in more demand.
It needs to be seen whether HBVL’s claim about Everton will be backed up in England.
Meanwhile, Martínez has provided an update on his future during an interview with Cadena Ser’s El Larguero.
“After the World Cup we will make a decision with common sense. It has been a very nice cycle. I would lie to you if I told you that I had something in mind,” he said.
