Everton have ‘already expressed their interest’ in FC Nuremberg Can Uzun as the German club eye a big profit next summer.
That’s according to BILD, who back up reports that Everton are keen on the 17-year-old and already thinking about a move for him.
The newspaper reports that, according to their information, which ‘coincides’ with what has already been reported, Everton and Benfica have already ‘expressed their interest’ in the youngster to those in charge at Nuremberg.
The German side, for their part, are not commenting on rumours at the moment but are aware of the ‘desire’ that Uzun’s performances in the 2. Bundesliga and DFB Pokal have stirred up.
Sports director Olaf Rebbe has insisted to BILD that there is nothing going on as yet, with the player tied down to a long-term deal.
“We are happy that Can is playing with us, we developed him from our own academy, and he will certainly bring us a lot of joy,” he said.
“Can has a long-term contract, the future will decide whether and when the time is right for a change. We’re not dealing with it at all at the moment.”
The reality, though, is that Nuremberg have a plan for the youngster that has long been in place. Their idea is to have Uzun play for them this season, star as much as possible and then be transferred for a big profit next summer.
With that in mind, a January deal is ‘almost impossible’ but for that to remain the case Uzun has to be playing regularly and developing, not just featuring as a substitute.
That hasn’t been happening of late, with BILD claiming that some of the interested parties have even been ‘surprised’ by his lack of inclusion in the starting lineup. Whether Everton are one of them isn’t stated.
They are, though, in the mix with this BILD report the second and presumably not the last stating as much.
