The entire city of Rotterdam would have been left “shaking” had manager Arne Slot left for Leeds United.
That’s according to journalists Hidde van Warmerdam and Sjoerd Mossou, who believe the Dutch coach would have proven difficult to replace.
Slot was linked to the Leeds job throughout last week, with Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani currently in a desperate search for Jesse Marsch’s replacement.
It’s believed the Dutch coach ended up at the top of their wish list following a rejection by Rayo Vallecano boss Andoni Iraola turned down the position.
Efforts were made to secure Slot’s signature but Feyenoord resisted and he publicly made it clear he would be staying in the Netherlands to complete his work there, having led the Dutch club to the top of the Eredivisie this season.
That was a major blow to Leeds, who remain without a permanent coach and scrambling to find an option that everyone in charge at Elland Road can agree on.
But had Slot accepted the position, it could have been a horror situation for Feyenoord, at least according to van Warmerdam and Mossou.
“Had he gone to Leeds United,” Mossou begins in the AD’s Panenka programme, relayed by FR Fans.
“Then all of Rotterdam would have been shaking,” Van Warmerdam finishes.
“There are still exactly the same problems as in the past 20, 30 years, only now Slot is in charge,” added Mossou.
