Crystal Palace striker Jean Philippe Mateta is a potential target for Borussia Dortmund this summer as they plan an overhaul of their forward line.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say Mateta’s superb form at the end of the season has put the Crystal Palace star on the radar for the Champions League finalists.
They explain that Dortmund want to strengthen their attack for next season and have Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy on their list after his own impressive campaign in the Bundesliga.
He is the preferred candidate at this moment in time and potentially available for as little as €18m thanks to a release clause in his current deal.
He would arrive as part of an overhaul of the front line, with Youssoufa Moukoko set to leave, Sebastien Haller also free to go and the German club welcoming offers for Niclas Füllkrug too if they’re at the right price.
That’s because Dortmund want a different type of striker at the club, someone who can guarantee 20 goals a season, and they view the Crystal Palace man as one such player.
He enjoyed a superb end to the season under Oliver Glasner, finishing the season with 16 goals and five assists in 35 games for Crystal Palace and it seems that’s aroused Dortmund’s interest.
The big problem could be his price as his current contract at Crystal Palace runs until 2026 and he probably wouldn’t be cheaper than Guirassy, who has that clause in his contract to take advantage of.
The belief is that he could be available for €20m, though, and Dortmund may have a greater transfer budget than usual this summer to accomodate for that anyway.
For now it seems they’re just looking at him, and with Napoli also credited with an interest in recent weeks too, it seems it could be a busy summer for the Frenchman.
