Rangers continue their hunt to find a new permanent manager to succeed Barry Ferguson at Ibrox, and it’s dragging on longer than many fans would like. There’s been multiple favourites for the Rangers position already and it doesn’t appear like an announcement is imminent from Ibrox.

Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the Brazilian media earlier this week, and hinted at his son Davide being in talks with Rangers and potentially other clubs.

Davide Ancelotti has long worked as his father’s assistant, including during his spell at Real Madrid. However, he’s decided against going to Brazil and has reportedly been in talks with Rangers, with him still the bookies favourite for the role.

During that interview, Carlo Ancelotti said: “He’s currently negotiating with a European team. So, I didn’t think it was right for him to come here. If he stays with the team, I wish him the best. If not, he can come back to us at any time.”

Thursday saw claims from Spain that David Ancelotti is now on Deportivo de la Coruña’s radar, further underlining there’s no agreement with Rangers so far. Later that day, claims came from Scotland of Rangers being in contact with Francesco Farioli, who recently left Ajax.

Carlo Ancelotti has now granted a big interview to Marca, and it was no surprise that the Spanish newspaper asked about his son and where things stand. It was again made clear by the former Everton manager that there’s no agreement in place with Rangers or anyone else yet… and the prospect of Davide Ancelotti doing a u-turn and going to Brazil was raised.

“It didn’t make sense for him to come here for these two games when he’s negotiating his options to manage a team,” Marca quote Carlo Ancelotti as saying. “He knows the doors are open and that he can join the project at any time. I think it’s fine that he wants to pursue his career alone, but Brazil is waiting for him if he deems it appropriate.”
