Last week, L’Equipe looked at what Bafétimbi Gomis’ injury could mean for Tottenham loanee Clinton N’Jié, and things were looking good.
The 23-year-old had picked up his fourth goal of the season against Stade Rennais, and many, including the White Hart Lane staff, will have been hoping for a repeat performance against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday evening.
Marseille were thumped 5-1 at home by a rampant PSG, and the Tottenham forward was unable to have any impact on the game, as Rudi Garcia’s tactic of trying to lob the ball over the opponent’s defence was thwarted early on by Thiago Silva.
L’Equipe gave N’Jié a 2/10 for his performance, describing him as ‘dragging himself around like a damaged soul’, after the player was taken off in the 52nd minute and replaced by former Newcastle attacking midfielder Rémy Cabella.
With only 11 games left in the season, it seems unlikely that, at this moment in time, Marseille, trying to get an ambitious project underway, will activate the release clause in N’Jié’s loan contract to bring him in from White Hart Lane permanently.
The performances haven’t really been there consistently, and Pochettino is likely going to have a decision to make regarding the Cameroon international for next season.
