Djurgårdens IF sporting director Bosse Andersson has told Fotbollskanalen that his side will hold talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a friendly fixture.
Earlier this month, Spurs were able to beat competition from Barcelona and agree a deal with Djurgårdens IF for Lucas Bergvall to arrive at the north London club in the summer.
Andersson is of the belief the agreement for the 18-year-old’s transfer has opened the door for Djurgårdens IF to try and bring Tottenham to Sweden.
The director has revealed the Premier League side are open to the idea.
When directly asked if a friendly was included in the agreement with Ange Postecoglou’s side as part of the Bergvall deal, he said: “It’s clear this wouldn’t have happened if Lucas hadn’t gone there. Both clubs have a common ambition to fulfil it and try to plan it.”
“It’s not very common for English teams to come to Stockholm. There is a mutual respect for that. Tottenham know that there’s a lot of interest in Sweden and Scandinavia, so they are completely on board with the idea.”
According to Fotbollskanalen, the friendly tie against Tottenham was revealed during the club’s meeting with their members on Monday.
The Swedish club’s official has also confirmed the clash won’t be taking place after this season and that there will be further talks with Tottenham, to decide the date.
“We have an ambition that Tottenham will come here and play against Djurgården. It’s hard to get dates together and all that stuff, but our ambition is that,” Andersson explained.
“We’ll go over to Tottenham and discuss the matter, but both clubs have the ambition to implement it. You shouldn’t expect it to happen this summer, but it’ll happen within the next few years.”
Bergvall will join his compatriot Dejan Kulusevski at the Premier League side next season.
