Barcelona won’t give up on a deal to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United this summer, considering him as the potential ‘icing on the cake’ of their business.

That’s according to Sport, who report that Rashford is eager to join Barcelona this summer and will pressure Manchester United to make it happen.

The newspaper explains that with Joan García signed and Nico Williams seemingly on the way, the rest of Barcelona’s summer transfer business will depend on departures or market opportunities.

Rashford is considered one of the latter and would be the ‘icing on the cake of a dream attack’. He is highly regarded by Hansi Flick, particularly for his versatility. This could come in handy in a season with possible injuries. They want to be better equipped if they lose Robert Lewandowski like they did this season.

The 27-year-old is determined to sign for Barcelona and had made this clear to the club ‘actively and passively’. His brother even travelled to the city to meet with director of football Deco.

He made it clear in those talks that Rashford is willing to push Manchester United to accept a loan deal. He will also lower his salary to a point where Barcelona can afford him. He intends to make himself a bargain in this transfer window.

Barcelona had targeted a deal in January, before he joined Aston Villa, but dropped the idea to focus on the registration of several players with renewals instead.

They’ve made it clear to Rashford that they will likely have to wait until late in the summer to really move for him. Their focus is currently on getting García and Williams registered in their squad.

Rashford is aware of this and so has rejected other offers to date, from Saudi Arabia, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Aston Villa. He believes time is on his side. He also thinks Manchester United will have to abandon their current €40m asking price at some point.

It will be a matter of patience, but both he and Barcelona want the deal to happen and will work towards finding an agreement.
