It’s time for AS Roma to start planning a potential attempt to keep Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea beyond the end of the season.
With the striker only loaned by the Blues, the Giallorossi need to study how much they can spend to convince all parties of making that move permanent.
Calciomercato today writes about that, recalling what Gazzetta dello Sport previously reported, which is there’s only one condition for Roma to try the signing, and that’s a spot in the Champions League for the next season.
In case that happens, then it’s time to speak to Chelsea, who do not have Lukaku as part of their plans, wanting to sell him for €43m.
As a discount is ‘unthinkable’ at this stage, Roma may miss out and see him moving to Saudi Arabia, where Al-Hilal have their eyes on him.
The club are said to be ready to make a heavy offer, where they’d pay him €30m per year, which is ‘much more’ than his salary at Chelsea.
As said by Calciomercato, that’s a ‘river of money’, and that may end Roma’s chances of keeping him, all depending on whether they can afford him when the time comes.
