AC Milan find a move for Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto de Zerbi ‘intriguing’ thanks to his past with the Italian giants.
That’s according to Corriere della Sera, relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, who report that they aren’t however willing to pay De Zerbi’s release clause to get him from Brighton.
The newspaper explains that among the various names that have been linked with Milan in recent weeks, it was inevitable that De Zerbi would also pop up.
There are several reasons they may look at him but two in particular, the fact that he is a young coach with innovative ideas and that it would be something of a homecoming as De Zerbi grew up in Milan’s youth sector during his playing career.
Thus, Milan are ‘intrigued’ by the idea of hiring him to replace Stefano Pioli, but the major catch is his release clause at Brighton.
The Seagulls have their manager locked into a deal with a €15m release clause included and that’s made everyone at Milan baulk.
Both the corporate and sporting management at the club are insisting on sticking to a strategy focused on sustainability and so are not willing to pay such a large amount just to free a coach from his contract.
Therefore, De Zerbi’s chances of swapping Brighton for Milan seem low at this moment in time, unless there is a way to bring that fee down considerably.
