Atlético Madrid are focusing on Chelsea’s Renato Veiga to strengthen their defence, after missing out on Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero.

On Monday, we covered claims from Spain that the La Liga club have initiated contact with Chelsea for Veiga, who is open to changing clubs this summer.

Tuesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo claims Los Rojiblancos have made advances to sign the Chelsea player.

The Blues won the Club World Cup and Enzo Maresca left the 21-year-old out of the squad. Therefore, he wants to leave the west London club, and his preference seems to be Diego Simeone’s side.

Veiga has given his approval to Atlético and reached an agreement with them on personal terms, according to Mundo.

Atlético will have to agree terms with Chelsea to conclude the operation, and the two clubs could soon advance negotiations.

Enzo Maresca’s side value the Portugal international at €40m and the newspaper claims he could leave Stamford Bridge for around €30-35m this summer.

With all parties seeming to be in favour of a transfer, the move can be concluded if the two clubs were to find an agreement.
