One of their main targets throughout the transfer window, it appears Arsenal have finally pulled the trigger to sign Thomas Partey.

This is according to a number of reports around Europe, with the latest coming from Cadena COPE journalist Antonio Ruiz, who took to Twitter to announce the news.

The Spaniard explain that Arsenal ‘have communicated to La Liga their intention to pay the release clause’ for the Ghana international, and should ‘shortly proceed with the payment’.

For those who aren’t aware, Partey’s clause currently stands at €50m, meaning the Gunners are going to have to pay that up front to get their man unless they have some agreement with Atlético Madrid.

Either way, this is huge news for Arsenal fans, who have been patiently waiting all summer and beyond for a new defensive midfielder, and their club have gone for what appears to have been their number one target in the role.
